A successful event needs more than an easily accessible and dynamic venue equipped with the latest AV technology, it also needs an experienced and professional in-house team that can provide advice and help manage your event.
From the very first point of contact where you layout the event brief, to on-the-day liaison, and even post-event requests such as audio recordings, the team needs to be thorough, passionate, and professional.

Akmal Shahzad
Venue Manager, IET Birmingham: Austin Court
Since joining IET Birmingham: Austin Court in 2015, Akmal has created a team of experts who are passionate and dedicated to crafting unforgettable experiences. Customer service at the venue is second to none and nothing is too big an ask, this is evident from the outstanding positive feedback the venue team receives time and again.
His determination to create a leading, internationally recognised venue resulted in the approval of the digital AV upgrade to the venue’s Kingston Theatre and the facility refurbishment in 2019. Under Akmal’s leadership the venue team has a keen focus on maximising profits by concentrating on revenue generation and cost reduction.
Before his role at Austin Court, Akmal worked on various projects of note including being part of the pre-opening management team at Radisson Blue Hotel, Birmingham, and as part of the management team for Crowne Plaza Hotel, Birmingham, during its £20million refurbishment.
Outside of work, Akmal is a keen globe trotter.
Angie Devi
Sales Office Manager, IET Birmingham: Austin Court
With more than 20 years’ experience at IET Birmingham: Austin Court, Angie has ascended the ranks from Sales and Events Co-ordinator to Sales Office Manager and has overseen some remarkable events and projects.
Angie coordinated the hosting of Team South Africa during the Commonwealth Games in 2022, managed the screening of “My Name is Leon” in 2022 and secured BDRC Gold Standard for the venue for three years.
To add to this, Angie is also passionate about minimising the impact of the venue on the environment and, working with the wider team, has created an award-winning sustainable offering with Silver Tourism and Gold ECOsmart accreditation.
