IET Glasgow: Teacher Building has been declared carbon neutral by the Carbon Trust and the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS), ensuring that every event and delegate at the venue has their carbon footprint offset while they are there. IET Birmingham: Austin Court was also awarded a silver accreditation in the GTBS scheme, adding to their environmental portfolio.
Leading IET Venues’ commitment to reducing its impact on the environment, IET Glasgow: Teacher Building has achieved this status by teaming up with Carbon Clear to reduce the venue’s emissions as far as possible and purchasing carbon offset credit to cover the remaining impact. The venue also participated in National Energy Saving Week in October, sending daily tips to staff and customers on reducing their personal carbon footprints.
“Offsetting carbon is not something that should just be confined to transport and travel. At IET Venues we’re fully committed to doing our bit for the environment and reducing the impact we have on it,” said Justin Livesey, Venue Manager, IET Glasgow: Teacher Building. “The acknowledgement that IET Glasgow: Teacher Building is carbon neutral should give peace of mind to all of our customers and delegates that the environmental impact of the events they’re running or attending has been offset by us.”
This achievement has come shortly after IET Glasgow: Teacher Building was commended in the ‘Best Small Venue’ category at the Scottish Event Awards 2011, and the venue is also pleased to demonstrate an immediate commitment to environmental sustainability by funding emissions reduction projects in developing countries.
